Microwaves offer a quick, easy and convenient method of cooking. They are perfect for busy lifestyles, yet they still offer a great way to cook great food in a matter of minutes even if your life isn't that hectic! Microwave power is measured in watts – the higher the watts the faster your food will cook.

If you will be using your microwave mostly for reheating food and ready meals you may not need more than a basic model.

However, if you will be preparing entire dishes in it; a model that has a browning facility might be useful. This is usually referred to as a “combination oven” it uses microwaves to cook the food quickly and then regular convection heat to brown/crisp it.

There are 3 types of microwave to choose from:

  1. Standard - Available in different sizes and models these microwaves allow you to reheat, defrost and cook based on various cooking instructions.

  2. With grill - Ideal for browning or crisping, these microwaves have a grill feature so that you can get the same results as you would using a conventional grill. They also have the cooking, reheating and defrosting options as well as all the features of a standard microwave oven. This can be used exclusively as a grill, or in conjunction with the microwave, allowing you to brown and crisp your food.

  3. Combination - With a microwave, grill and convection (hot-air) oven, a combination oven offers the most flexibility, allowing you to use the functions independently or together. It combines the best of all worlds, offering fast economical cooking from one space saving appliance.
